Believer
Candidates for GuSeJu who fight a battle with themselves, imitating HaNaNim who overcame ‘I’ myself, that is, the GuSeJu
SeungNiJeDan is where the true GuSeJu accomplishes the work of human salvation, and it is a place where Believers gather, striving towards the goal of becoming one with HaNaNim who overcame, following in the footsteps of the GuSeJu.
According to the conventional wisdom of this sinful world, Believers are in a position to praise God, but the Believers of SeungNiJeDan are in a position of struggling to become one with HaNaNim who overcame the devil, which is a significant difference.
The position of praising means that there is an underlying perception that God and I are separate beings. That is, while the existence called ‘I’ remains as it is, one wishes to avoid calamities that might befall them through God’s power and desires blessings, for instance, the blessing of eternal life. “If I believe in the GuSeJu well, attend worship services without fail, and make a good impression on the GuSeJu, surely one day the GuSeJu will cleanse all my sins and grant me eternal life, won’t he?” Thinking/hoping/being convinced of this is similar to this, and it is a situation like putting ‘new wine’ into ‘old wineskins’.
“Ah~ I’ve attended worship today. Let’s go somewhere nice, eat something delicious, and have a fun chat.” “Mate, I’m not feeling well today. Could you scan my attendance card for me?” Such words should not be uttered by a Believer of SeungNiJeDan.
Religion is not about me believing in someone, nor is it about observing formal laws or conditions. Ije-Baro, we must break free from conventional wisdom and complacency.
The ‘struggle to become one with HaNaNim who overcame the devil’ means that although JuNim became HaNaNim who overcame by pioneering a path where there was none, through a life of unspeakable suffering, we do not undergo such harsh hardships, but it refers to a spiritual struggle to eliminate ‘I’ and always have JuNim reside in our hearts.
Therefore, without exception, Believers of SeungNiJeDan are candidates for GuSeJu who are undergoing MilSil training.
The true GuSeJu became the ‘Iginja GuSeJu’ by undergoing unimaginable spiritual training under the guidance and encouragement of Hawa-Iginja in a secluded MilSil, located between Gyesu-ri and Beombak-ri, where only the sky and forest were visible. However, for the Believers of SeungNiJeDan today, the very place they are in is MilSil. Whether at home, at the altar, at the factory, or walking on the road, that place is MilSil. If one thinks of the past, it is the ‘mortal sin of looking back’. If one sees the faults of others, it is the ‘mortal sin of curious interest’. If one is conscious of ‘I’, it is the ‘mortal sin of being conscious of ‘I”. There are no exceptions.
The difference is that in MilSil, if one committed a sin, Hawa-Iginja’s guidance and encouragement were immediately given, whereas now, at SeungNiJeDan, JuNim stays awake at night, shedding tears of blood and praying, considering our sins as his own and cleansing them. Because JuNim sees Believers as HaNaNim, he does not slap them with his fist or poke them with the sharp end of an umbrella like Hawa-Iginja did, simply because they have sinned.
It wasn’t that Hawa-Iginja slapped someone with his fist for committing the ‘mortal sin of looking back’ and then went back to what he was doing. For that infuriating act, oppressed by the devil, Hawa-Iginja and all the MilSil members, as one body, beat the ground and wailed, spending the night weeping, crying out, and praying with a sound that tore the heavens. Even when mourning the death of a parent, one cannot wail for more than 10 minutes. However, the tears of the righteous are ceaseless. When one sheds so many tears, eventually tears of blood flow. That precious and rare Iginja, who was finally brought forth through such grace, is the JuNim of SeungNiJeDan.
Sakyamuni urged, “When the Maitreya Buddha appears in the world, protect him with your life.”
The precious and rare Iginja GuSeJu is shedding tears of blood to save us, considering our sins as his own and cleansing them. Although he has spoken so much about what constitutes sin, if Believers do not make an effort to avoid sinning, how long must JuNim repeat such futile efforts? We must always check whether our actions as Believers are protecting the Maitreya Buddha.
Starting with nothing, he built an altar worth 10 billion won in just 10 years, and pioneered over 50 altars overseas and across the nation. This is the astonishing work (役事) of HaNaNim who overcame. If money is needed, money appears. If followers are needed, followers appear. What the possessor of omniscient and omnipotent power desires is ‘Believers reborn of the Holy Spirit’, nothing else. Because other things are merely incidental, following naturally.
It is the mission of Believers to protect the living Maitreya Buddha. This means blocking people possessed by the red dragon devil, who are like lumps of excrement, from approaching the living Maitreya Buddha, and protecting this altar from contamination.
SeungNiJeDan has endured unjust infamy, and for over 40 years, through that dark tunnel, experiencing all sorts of twists and turns, many Believers fell away. At times, the altar building was on the verge of being auctioned off, and the remaining few Believers all took out urgent loans to overcome that crisis. We must deeply bear in mind that all these attacks – causing JuNim to suffer imprisonment, attempting to auction off the altar, and forcing JuNim to make up for deficiencies – were carried out by those who once attended the altar but then left.
On the other hand, even amidst such relentless attacks, JuNim does not forget the merits of the Believers who did not miss daily worship and did not abandon him, and he strives to save all of them.
JuNim’s striving means that if I commit a sin and come to the altar, he cleanses it, again and again and again. That is, he eagerly awaits the time when we enter the altar without sinning, and he is cleansing our sins with tears, sins that cover us as black as a crow, as we sit at the altar.
Deeply considering JuNim’s circumstances like this, and striving not to sin, while simultaneously protecting the altar from contamination, will ensure that JuNim’s grace is not used in vain and the gates of heaven will open.
Opportunity will not wait for me indefinitely. The longer one has been a senior member at SeungNiJeDan, the more one must feel a sense of crisis and make several times the effort. If one does not quickly become righteous, one will be pushed aside by the new, young, and capable people. Merit is merit, and reality is reality. Deeply engraving and re-engraving the fact that if one does not become righteous in reality, a devastating situation could arise, one must reorganise oneself and one’s surroundings, strengthen one’s resolve, and begin anew the ceaseless effort to become HaNaNim.
Prohibited Matters Among Believers
1) Financial transactions between Believers are prohibited. Both parties involved in borrowing or lending money will be expelled. Furthermore, one must not connect other Believers to one’s life, whether through joint guarantees or any other pretext, not just money. Both parties will be expelled.
2) In addition, acts such as selling goods, recruiting members, network marketing, etc., bringing topics other than JuNim to SeungNiJeDan, or introducing elements that distract other Believers from their ‘heart towards HaNaNim’ are prohibited. Such individuals cannot attend the altar and will be expelled.
3) Men and women must not be alone together in one place. Especially, young people must not evangelise one-on-one, neither a man to a woman nor a woman to a man.
Resolving Issues Among Believers
If you have any concerns, please consult with your regional leader or senior members who have been with SeungNiJeDan for a long time.
New Believers
It is the principle that the person who introduced a new believer continues to guide them. However, depending on the circumstances and request of the introducer, another guide may provide guidance instead, and those around welcome new believers as royalty.
A feast is held every time 21 days are completed. Upon completing the third 21-day period, a Believer’s certificate is awarded. When one year is reached, a grand joint feast is held.
Anyone who leaves before completing 21 days, for whatever reason, is classified as “someone who attended but no longer attends”. Therefore, one must only begin when fully prepared to start the 21-day period.
